First word of advice bring water there is no shade here and tempatures can reach over 100. Second come here after a rain as tons of new fossils are exposed. This site is a excellent location to find fossils for kid's and adults alike there are tons of surface level fossils and lot's of areas to dig. Tons of ancient Marine life.
We went hunting here and found several small fossils. It was a bit muddy with sticky mud, so wear old shoes/clothes. There's a covered picnic area to rest. We were the only 2 people until a small family showed up. Bring a little shovel, maybe an old camp chair, sunscreen, a container for your fossils.....I could have stayed for a few hours but my husband was tired of it after an hour.....oh, its FREE
We were very fortunate to visit this site during a cold front - but otherwise the hunt is very rewarding. Nothing giant but fun none the less and easily worked. Recommend hand fork and trowel, makes moving the packed mud layers easier. We found a large amount of Jasper, Croinoids, fossil shells and other small sea creatures. Very worth the visit. There is now a small shade structure at the entrance and a picnic table - but def bring water, granola bars or your lunch.
Very cool fossil park. You can't beat the price! Great for kids with short attention spans who need an easy time finding LOTS of fossils. The trade off is that all the fossils here are pretty small, but we still had a great time collecting them. This "park" has no amenities, so make sure you come with snacks and an empty bladder.
Very out of the way, but well worth it for anyone remotely interested in fossils (or who may be interested after finding some). When we went, it was empty, allowing us to collected where we wanted without stepping on anyone's toes.
